NASCIS Data Resources

The National Adult Social Care Intelligence Service (NASCIS) provides an array of analytical and information resources allowing effective and timely analysis of Social Care data to aid activities such as planning, performance management and service improvement, to name a few.

Analytical resources include NASCIS interactive Online Analytical Processor, JSNA data resources and Standard Reports. Also included are links to POPPI, PANSI and FLoSC tools developed by the Care Services Efficiency Delivery Programme.

Error Notice: Errors in the 2012-13 data for Measures 3B, 3C and 3D of the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework (9/12/14)

Please note that errors have been identified in the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework 2012-13 data sourced from the Survey of Adult Carers in England. The affected data relate to the margin of error (‘confidence interval’) figures, and have now been corrected.

The errors affected Measure 3B ‘Overall satisfaction of carers with social services’, Measure 3C ‘ The proportion of carers who report that they have been included or consulted in discussion about the person they care for’ and Measure 3D ‘The proportion of people who use services and carers who find it easy to find information about services’.

2013/14 DoLS data now available to all users (03/09/14)

Final validated data for the 2013/14 Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) return is now available to all users. All data is aggregated to council level to protect client confidentiality. Counts of applications completed within the reporting year, authorisations that were active in the reporting year and the number of individuals related to each of these are available. These numbers have changed since the previous release. Please click here to access.

Error Notice: Errors in the 2012-13 disaggregated data for Measure 4A of the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework.

Please note that errors have been identified in the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework 2012-13 disaggregated data for Measure 4A ‘The proportion of people who use services who feel safe’. The affected data relates to the regional and council-type totals for the ‘18 to 64’ breakdown and the council-type totals for the ’65 and over’ breakdown, which have now been rectified (04/08/14).

Notice: Omission in Durham’s data for ASCOF Measure 1G (ASC-CAR Table L2) (14/03/2013)

An omission was identified for Durham Local Authority in the data that feed into ASCOF Measure 1G - Proportion of adults with learning disabilities who live in their own home or with family, 2011-12. Data for Durham Local Authority for the ASCOF measure 1G were not shown in the National Adult Social Care Intelligence Service (NASCIS). The items affected were the ASCOF standard report, the OLAP ASCOF table and the OLAP L2 table. This omission has now been rectified.

NASCIS OLAP and standard reports have been updated to include the 2010/11 final (3rd cut) Abuse of Vulnerable Adults (AVA) data. This supports the national Abuse of Vulnerable Adults publication and is open to all NASCIS users.

ERROR NOTICE: Please note that an error was identified in the 'Other Services' field of the 'Total Adult Social Services' dimension in the 2010/11 incl. SSMSS data. This affected both the publicly available 2nd cut data and restricted 3rd cut data for the period 30th November 2011 - 8th March 2012 . This error arose through the omission of the 'Other - other adult services' field when calculating the total for 'other services' in the 'Total Adult Social Services' dimension. No other totals were affected by this mis-calculation. This error has now been rectified.

Error Notice: Error on Chart 16 of ‘Use of Resources’ standard report

Please note that an error has been identified in Chart 16 (Proportion of Total Gross Current Expenditure arising from Client Contributions to Day and Domiciliary Care) of the 2009/10 and 2010/11 Use of Resources standard reports for all Local Authorities in NASCIS. This error has arisen through the omission of the Fairer Charging category in the calculation of Client Contributions to Day and Domiciliary Care.

Standard Reports for NIS, Older Peoples services, RAP and Outcomes and Domains have been updated with the final 2009/10 data. The 2008/09 reports will not be updated with the revisions but are now available via an archive page.

NASCIS has been updated to include data collected via the new Abuse of Vulnerable Adults (AVA) return. This consists of a National level standard report available to all users, and council level data available via the OLAP to restricted users ONLY. Please note that this data was collected on a voluntary basis over the six month period 1st October 2009 to 31st March 2010 and are badged as EXPERIMENTAL statistics. There are known data quality issues with this data detailed in the Data Quality statement

Also available via NASCIS is the final 2009/10 ‘Use of Resources’ standard report. This is available to all users.

An adjustment has been made to the figures in the R, A8 and P2s tables of the 2008/09 Referrals, Assessment and Packages of Care (RAP) data available in the NASCIS online analytical processing tool. These minor adjustments have been made so that the figures exactly match those in the 2008/09 activity publication. This affects the figures for; Newham (731) and Redbridge (732) in the R tables; Norfolk (607) in table A8; Gateshead (106), Wokingham (619) and Medway Towns (821) in table P2S. All other figures are unchanged.

Please note that the 'LA council type' comparator group on the NASCIS OLAP was based on the 08/09 council type. For clarification, this has been renamed as 'LA council type (pre April 2009)' and a new comparator group has been added to reflect the latest groupings. This has been named 'LA council type (April 2009 onwards)’.

NASCIS has been updated to include the first cut (raw, unvalidated) figures for the 2009/10 RAP, ASC-CAR and NIS data as restricted management information to local authorities only. The formal publication of the 2009/10 is due at the end of September 2010. In addition, NASCIS has been updated so that the figures used to calculate the per 10,000 population and per 100,000 population figures are using the revised mid-year population estimates from ONS. The standard reports have not been revised to take this in to consideration – please be aware of this when using the standard reports.

Additional JSNA indicators from the Association of Public Health Observatories have also been released.

Final Activity and Expenditure data for 2008/2009 has now been published via the Standard Reports and the OLAP tool (28 April 2010)

NASCIS has now been updated with the final cuts of data for the 2008/2009 Referrals, Assessments and Packages of Care (RAP), Adult Social Care Combined Activity Return (ASC-CAR), Personal Social Services Expenditure (PSSEX) and National Indicator Set (NIS). All data in the NASCIS online analytical tool and the NASCIS Standard Reports has been formally published and can now be used externally in accordance with NHS Information Centre rules on re-use of data. Access this data through the NASCIS tools page.

The Final 2008/09 Older People's Home Care User Experience Survey (UES) data is now available via OLAP in the NASCIS Data Resources.

Please note that there have been some additions to the OLAP functionality – a save query function, a visual guide to dimensions in use and additional notation on the display area. Please see the User Guide for further information. A publication is also available and can found in the NASCIS Library, under Statistics and Collections.

The Grant Funded Services for Adults 2008/2009 (GFS) has also been published by the NHS Information Centre and also can be found in the NASCIS Library, under Statistics and Collections.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) data now available on NASCIS (01/12/09)

The NHS Information Centre has collated key indicators and data to help commissioners across health and social care complete their Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). This service provides access to data identified in the JSNA core dataset, either through the NASCIS online analytical tool, through direct data downloads or through a link to the original source of the data.

In addition, a selection of JSNA indicators developed by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) are also available. These indicators have been derived using existing health data sets but allow users to drill down from local authority and PCT level to smaller geographic areas and cut across the core JSNA domains.
